The human body is a creation that surpasses much more than our
current understanding. The body is a living temple of God incorporated
with numerous meridians through which the vital energy of life
flows. There are seven chakras or energy centers located in
your body that act as windows to allow your body to breathe
spiritually. Becoming more closely attuned to one’s energy
provides balance, nurtures the healing process, and helps you
to better understand the vast array of impulses, thoughts, feelings
and emotions that you experience every moment.
Fifty years ago, we knew practically nothing about the human
energy field. All we basically knew was that the food we ate
gave us energy. The more we ate, the more energy we had. Over
the past few decades information about the human energy system
has increased dramatically. There are numerous books about
the human aura, the human energy field and the chakras. There
are also a variety of workshops designed to give you hands
on experience working with the human energy system, such as
chakra healing, color healing, energy healing using hands
of light. The central theme of all of these activities is
to help us better understand how our bodies function in a
physical and spiritual capacity.
Still, with all of this information at our fingertips, it
can be difficult to substantiate the existence of the auric
energy field because it is something that is invisible. How
do we know that this energy field exists, especially for the
newcomer? Kirlian photography captures the human aura, but
do the pictures reveal the true essence of what our energy
field looks like? The human energy system, like anything else
new to your internal field of awareness, is something to which
you must become intuitively sensitized and attuned. But even
before you actually engage in the process of working with
your energy system, you should approach the endeavor with
an open mind. Make your auric energy field the central theme
of focus during your meditation activities and keep in mind
the first rule of thumb when considering matters of spirituality
and that which is intangible.
The first rule of thumb is that anything that cannot be seen
requires faith that it exists. After all, we are talking about
the human energy system. The human energy system comprises
the core of the invisible presence that expresses our spirituality.
Spirituality and faith go together like peas and carrots,
as Forest Gump would say.
In beginning our discussion on the human energy system, let’s
analyze it from a twofold perspective, physical and nonphysical.
Perhaps when we understand how our energy system functions
from a physical perspective we might better understand how
the invisible aspect of our energy system functions. Let’s
take things from a physical perspective first and begin with
a very brief discussion on anatomy.
Blood is the life sustaining substance that of our bodies.
The air that we breathe and everything that we eat and drink
is processed and absorbed into the blood. There are large
arteries and many small arteries or vessels that branch off
from the larger ones. The blood vessels that carry oxygen,
nutrients and all of the essential elements to support the
internal structure the sustain our bodies circulates continuously
through the heart. The heart is the energy center of our body.
It is a miraculous instrument of creation that gives us life.
The arteries, blood vessels and heart is the visible source
of our physical body.
The vital life energy comprises the nonphysical aspect of
our energy system. The meridians through which the vital life
energy flow is likened to invisible blood vessels in the body
and function much in the same capacity. There are large meridians
and many smaller meridians that branch off from the larger
ones. The meridians flow between a series of seven chakras.
Like the heart, the chakras are energy centers within the
nonphysical aspect of our body. Blood flowing through veins
cannot be felt, but the flow of vital force energy can be
felt when a person’s inner senses are properly attuned.
The chakra energy centers allow our body to breathe spiritually.
The chakras are invisible valves which govern and equalize
the flow of spiritual light and energy both into and out of
the body. We have seven major chakra centers, five of which
are located along the spine. Chakra is Sanskrit for “wheels
or centers of radiating life force.” The wheels are
actually a series of vortexes within the body. Tis their spinning
action that connects us more closely with the Holy Spirit.
The energy of our chakras can help us greatly with balancing
our stride along the path of self-discovery. These energy
centers are also referred to as reflectors, since they take
in the Light of God and reflect that Light back to the world.
Let’s examine further the characteristics and functions
of the each chakra.
The first chakra is the root chakra and is located at the
base of the spine. This chakra governs our will to live, our
life force energy and is the grounding link between us and
the earth. It represents our physical energy, stability, passion
and transmutation. The color of this chakra is red and its
element is earth. It is linked with the reproductive system,
lower extremities, legs and feet, testes, large intestine,
rectum and prostate.
The second chakra is the sacral chakra and is located a few
inches below the navel. This chakra affects our emotions,
desire, creativity, sexuality, appetite, patience, endurance,
self-confidence and well-being. The color of this chakra is
orange and its element is water. It is linked with the reproductive
system, ovaries, bladder, kidneys, adrenals, and is the center
for detoxifying the body.
The third chakra is the solar plexus and is located a few
inches above the naval. This chakra represents our personal
power, will, purpose and strength, vitality, ambition and
decisions. The color of this chakra is yellow and its element
is fire. It is linked with the digestive system, stomach,
gallbladder, liver, spleen and small intestine.
The fourth chakra is the heart center and is located at the
heart in the center of the chest. This chakra governs our
ability to love unconditionally and aligns our love with divine
love. It affects our sense of harmony, joy, peace and acceptance.
The heart chakra balances the other charkas. Its color is
green and its element it air. The heart chakra is linked to
the heart and pulmonary activities, immune system, thymus
and tissue regeneration. It awakens our higher compassion
and innate healing abilities.
The fifth chakra is your throat chakra and is located at
the base of the throat. This chakra reflects the power of
the spoken word, the ability to speak our truth and communicate
clearly and effectively. It represents listening and taking
responsibility for our actions, speaking things into being
(assists in manifesting abundance). The color of this chakra
is blue and its element is spirit. It is linked to the throat,
thyroid, esophagus, mouth, teeth, and vocal apparatus.
The sixth chakra is the third eye and is located between
the eyebrows. This chakra is associated with the pineal gland
and stimulates inner sight, clairvoyance, intuition, creative
imagination, psychic abilities and self-realization. Often
referred to as the mind’s eye, this visionary center
transcends multidimensional realities. Its color is indigo
(does not have an element). This chakra is linked to the pituitary
gland, brain, endocrine system, sinuses, eyes, ears and face.
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra and located at the
top of the head. This chakra reflects our spirituality, higher
mind, knowing, our connection to God and expansion of our
consciousness. Its our link to our past lives and their effects
on us in the present. The color of this chakra is violet/white
(does not have an element). It is linked to the pineal gland
and nervous system.
As we discussed in our previous class on ‘Spirituality,’
the chakras and the meridians through which the vital life
force energies flow comprises the human aura. The aura or
auric energy field is also the underlying human spirit. Let’s
emphasize this again. The aura and the spirit are one in the
same. The aura/spirit are the field of energy that give us
life as a sentient being. All essential ingredients necessary
to enable us to function are housed within our energy field.
Whether these ingredients are seen or unseen, it doesn’t
matter because there are both manifested and unmanifested
energy housed within the spirit. What we see is manifested
energy, namely our physical body and its various parts. What
we don’t see is unmanifested energy, such as thoughts,
feelings, emotions and all characteristics that make up your
personage. The energy comprising the auric energy field is
in a constant state of fluctuation, which can be easy to relate
to considering our feelings and emotions regularly fluctuate
and our thoughts often run chaotic.
It is said that for everything in existence there is a source.
Some sources are hidden, some are not. We know that the energy
center or source of the physical body is the heart, but what
about the auric energy field or spirit? What is the source
that sustains our spirit? The source of the spirit’s
energy is the soul which is located within the heart. The
energy permeating the spirit circles continuously through
the soul. The energy permeating the spirit is continuously
animated by the light or fire of the soul. How do we know
that the soul is a flame that dwells within us? Consider the
following exerpt from the Principle Upanishads.
The soul dwells within us, a flame the size of a thumb. When
it is known as the Lord of the past and future, then ceases
all fear: This in truth is That. Like a flame without smoke,
the size of a thumb, is the soul; the Lord of the past and
the future, the same both today and tomorrow: This in truth
is That.
OK, so we have some profound wisdom from an Ancient Text.
But where might we ask does the soul gets its life giving
fire? In other words, the soul is the source of the spirit,
but where and what is the source of the soul? Answering this
question is a bit complex, but only if we make it so. It falls
along the lines of the first rule of thumb and that we must
have faith. The above excerpt reveals that our soul flame
dwells within us, but it didn't exactly specify that our soul
flame dwells within the heart. Let's examine another excerpt
given to us by the Master Sananda and put the two pieces of
wisdom together. How do we know it is within the heart?
Bring thine self to the alter of the living God, and know
ye it is within thee, within thy own breath. ‘Tis not
built of stone and mortar (as are the great Cathedrals), it
is within thy own heart cell. Be ye not deluded by the ones
which are prone to hold thee in bondage, it is the way of
the unenlightened.
It is safe to assume that one's alter is the soul. It is
within thy own breath and heart cell. After all, the focus
of our prayer, meditation and In Reach efforts are to develop
a closer kinship with our best friend, our soul. Our soul
is the spark of light within us because it is the piece of
God within us. Our soul sustains the heart and pumps energy
throughout our auric field and our physical body.
We would remind ourselves that we are embarking upon the
process of building a new home within the house of God. The
home we are building is us. We are the home. Be the home.
Our home is solid and impenetrable. Our foundation is anchored
within the breath of God, which might be perceived as a metaphorical
depiction of the infinite blanket of universal energy that
is continously swirling within, without and all about.
We would also like to draw your attention to another metaphorical
depiction in regards to building our new home. Consider it
something you can envision. Our chakras act to our body very
much like the windows of our home. Consider how stale and
stuffy our home gets when the windows are left closed for
a time. When the windows are opened in spring and the air
enters and circulates throughout our home, the atmosphere
is refreshed and we are able to breathe more freely. It is
exactly the same way with our body. By directing our attention
inward to God, our chakras open wider and spin faster. We
might see our energy centers as fans drawing the Wind of Spirit
into our body which serves to circulate Light and Love through
our being and revitalize us. Our body will slowly become acclimatized
with the Holy Spirit by breathing in and out the Love of God.
